Geum TEMPO™ ‘Yellow’ is a compact, clump-forming avens bred by Terra Nova Nurseries, carrying semi-double yellow flowers with fine dark edging on near-black, wiry stems above a tidy mound of green foliage.
Bred to stay tidy
Older geum varieties are notorious for sprawling and flopping once in bloom; the TEMPO™ series was specifically selected to keep a neat, mounding habit instead. ‘Yellow’ blooms in early spring and can continue into early summer, drawing bees and butterflies throughout.
Care tips
Plant in full sun to part shade in moist, loamy, well-drained soil, and water at an average rate, letting the soil dry out somewhat between waterings. Deadhead spent blooms to keep the display going, feed with a balanced fertilizer each spring after the first year, and cut the plant back in fall to help it overwinter cleanly. It is low maintenance, deer resistant, and a reliable early-season draw for pollinators.
Fun Fact
TEMPO™ is a Terra Nova Nurseries series bred specifically to fix the biggest complaint about older geums — a floppy, sprawling habit — into a neat, clump-forming mound that stays put. The near-black flower stems make the semi-double yellow blooms of 'Yellow' pop even more.
